PLEASE NOTE:

This file is a work in progress.  The work is proceeding in a two-pronged approach.

1.  Staff members have transcribed entries from Beckel's "Marriages and Deaths" as they appear in the printed work.  Final proofreading then takes place, and HTML links are provided to related family members.

2.  Staff members are digitizing articles from our microfilm, working through the paper in a chronological fashion, and then matching the actual articles up with the Beckel entries.

Current status of this project:

1.  Beckel transcriptions:  TRANSCRIPTIONS ARE COMPLETE!                                                                                  proofreading and family links complete: Mrs. John Heller

2.  Microfilm digitization:   complete through January 1877

                                       January 1879 - August 1879

                                       January 1880 - December 1880

                                       January 1885 - March 1885

                                                  ==== INTRODUCTION  =====

This file is based on the five-volume work "Marriages and Deaths, Extracts from the Bethlehem Daily Times 1867-1890" edited by Clarence E. Beckel under the direction of Harriet T. Root, Director of the Bethlehem Area Public Library.  The work was completed in 1936 and was made possible by means of a Federal appropriation through the Works Progress Administration.

The original work is a compilation of biographical and genealogical information contained in the Bethlehem Daily Times.  The original newspapers, at that time stored in the offices of its successor the Bethlehem Globe-Times, were used to extract the data.  The volumes are available for use at the Bethlehem Area Public Library.

This database takes the original data into the twenty-first century.  Microfilm of the original newspapers has been digitally scanned and linked to the corresponding index entries.
