This index represents many years of work by volunteers and staff at the Bethlehem Area Public Library.

The file provides a selective  index to articles appearing in the Bethlehem Globe-Times newspaper during the time period from 1867 through part of 1912.  Work on this index is continuing.  (Indexing done by library staff and volunteers has been entered through May 10, 1890.)

The scope of the indexing is limited to local events effecting residents of what was then Bethlehem, South Bethlehem, West Bethlehem, Fountain Hill, Bethlehem Township, Freemansburg, Lower Saucon, and Hanover Township.

National events such as the sinking of the Titanic or the assassination of a president would NOT be included here, unless a local resident was involved.  

Each entry includes the date, page and column number of the original article; the headline; additional explanatory or key words and/or names of those associated with the article; and at least one subject heading.  In some cases, for the time period 1867 - 1890, images of some of the articles MAY be included with the index entry.  To view the image, simply click on the link.
